Nikau Term 4 2010

Ahoy there,

Term Four is ofcourse another busy term for the Nikau syndicate with the Pirate Immersion Day, 'Molly the Pirate' Show, Tree Planting, Sunnyvale 50th Jubilee, Athletics Day, Polynesian Festival, and End of Year Picnic. We have provided a brief outline of the different events in term four below. If you would like any additional information please feel free to contact us.

Pirates! Our inquiry for term 4 will be based around pirates. On the first Wednesday of term 4 we will be having 'Pirate Day' where we will immerse the children in pirate related activities. It would be helpful if you could spend some time in the holidays helping your child find a pirate costume to wear. On Tuesday of week 3 the students will be watching a performance from 'Molly the Pirate'. There will be a small fee for this performance, a notice will come home about it at the beginning of term 4. Our concept for this term is 'Dare to Imagine'. As well as our pirate inquiry, we will be concentrating on art, dance, and music.

Sunnyvale's 50th Jubilee will be held at the end of week 2 (Labour weekend). There will be a 'mix-and-mingle' on the Friday night and the official opening of the hall on the Saturday. The classrooms will all be open on the Saturday for people to have a walk through. We encourage you and your children to take this opportunity to come down and visit.

Polynesian Festival - The Polynesian Festival takes place in week 5 at the Corbans Art Centre in Henderson. We are very excited because for the first time our junior Kapa Haka group will be participating in this event. Miss Cooper has been working hard with the Kapa Haka group and I know they will perform with pride.

Room 7 and 8 are very lucky to have student teachers in class with them for the first five weeks of the term. They will be the main teacher for the majority of this time. I know the children in Room 7 and 8 will love having these new teachers. Miss Cooper and Miss Keber will still be in the classroom helping out and you are still able to direct any inquiries to them.

Nikau Syndicate spent Thursday afternoons in Term 3 practising gymnastics in our new hall. The children had a fabulous time and learnt many new skills. Thanks to our Year 6 helpers Bradley and Baeley who helped us every week. In term 4 several of the children in the Nikau Syndicate will display their new gymnastics skills at a school assembly. In term 4 we will be concentrating on small ball skills and athletics for PE. Please set aside Friday November 12th to come and support your child on Athletics Day. There will be great competition between the three classes to see who can win the class relay!

Speeches - Our speeches in Term 3 were a big success. Congratulations to Siu who won the Year 2 final, and to Solomon and Taiyo who came second equal. Congratulations also to Nikau Syndicate members, Saffron and Evangel, who came first and second in the Year 1 speech finals. Mrs Coffey, one of our Year 2 judges, commented on the high standard of all the speeches. Congratulations Nikau Syndicate - your hard work paid off! Thank you to all the parents who helped their children write and practise their speeches, and to those parents who came along to support their children in the finals. What a fantastic turnout!
