Room 6
Welcome to Term 4.
After a wet term and lots of days inside, we are all looking forward to sunny days and time outside.
Homework - In Room 6 homework goes home on Mondays. The homework will be an ABC study one week followed by a homework sheet the next week. Each week children will get spelling words to learn. In Room 6 if a child has a problem with the homework and you feel they have tried and cannot do any more please sign the homework to let me know they have tried. If you are worried and they have not completed it, write a short note letting me know the problem and when they will have it completed by. The children have been doing a fabulous job at their ABC homework.
Caps/Hats- As we move into the warmer weather it is important that all children are wearing a hat or cap. These are available at the school office. The school policy is that all children are expected to wear a hat when outside in the summer months. If they have no hat they are asked to play in the shade. The sun becomes very fierce and wearing a hat is one way to protect them when playing outside.
Class Routines- An ideal time to arrive at school is around 8:30am. This gives children time to sharpen pencils, unpack bags, catch up with their friends and say hello to their teacher.
Uniform- Please name everything! I have lots of permanent markers in class for you or your child to use if needed. Let me know if I can help.
Library- Our day for visiting the library is on Thursday. Each week we will be able to get two new library books. The children can keep their books for two weeks as some books they get out may need two weeks to read. I require all the children in Room 6 to get at least one chapter book out when we go. The Waitakere mobile library bus will be visiting school every second Friday for those who have Waitakere library cards.
Lunchtime activities – At the moment the children have a wide variety of things to do during break times. The children need to keep up their effort at all activities, remember their gear for trainings, remember their duty times and if they have a clash of activities make sure they let the teacher in charge know they cannot attend that day. The children are doing a fabulous job at keeping up with the pace of the senior school and I am seeing the children take more responsibility for themselves and their actions.
Athletics- Shortly children will be practising for the School Athletics Day. Some children will then be chosen to make up a school team to participate in Interschool Athletics later on in the term. More information on the dates will be in school newsletters as the term moves along.
Cultural Groups- Our Kapa Haka, Polynesian and Indian groups are practising hard for the Cultural Festival later on in the term. Some of the groups may be performing at the School Reunion on Labour Weekend.
Any Questions- Should you have any questions about your child’s learning, sports, trips, homework or anything else please don’t hesitate to come and see me, send a note or drop me an email. I am available in class anytime after 8.30am.
Kind regards

Camp Recount Term One!
On Monday the 8th of March 2010 Kauri Syndicate went to Camp Carey Park.
We got there about 9:50. Once we got there we saw our luggage. We had to unpack our sleeping bag and if you were really organised you got out your clothes for the next day. Our first activity was photography. We didn’t use cameras cause Mr Taura couldn’t find the batteries, so we used the flips instead. Then half way through Mr Taura found the batteries. He called us back.
On Tuesday we went kayaking. Kayaking was fun but I fell in three times and got splashed several times as well.
On Wednesday for breakfast I had porridge and toast. I said grace. The toast was cold but the porridge was hot. For lunch we had fish, potato salad and coleslaw.
On Thursday we had showers. Showers are difficult because you have to go for a shower in your towel and undies. Later that night we had the PJ party and we were lucky because we got glow sticks.
On Friday it was a sad, sad day as we had to leave. We had hotdogs, apples and a muffin for lunch. Then I had to say thanks to the parents for all their hard work to help us to get to camp and how we appreciated them helping us at camp with activities. Then Kauri Syndicate sang the Sunnyvale song. After that room 6 got split up and my half went with room 5. After that was all sorted we started to load the children in the buses. In an estimate of time it took 10-15 minutes to get back to school. Then we got back to school. Me and Nique were the last two people to go home.
I really enjoyed camp; I didn’t even want to leave camp. But now it’s back to school work. I hope the year five’s have an awesome time at camp next year.

Zoo Trip Term 2 Week 3We have been looking at endangered animals: why they are endangered and how they become endangered. The zoo provided us with some information about the different animals and an opportunity to see a range of animals. We will use the information we gathered in our concept of sustainability, reading and writing this term. We will try and add some more pictures to this page for you to view soon!
