Room 7 Newsletter

Term 4, 2010

Kia Ora and welcome back everyone. Yay its term 4, the last term for the year.  We have an exciting 10 weeks ahead of us with our focus for the term being ‘Dare to Imagine’. For the first few weeks we will be studying Pirates and we have a fun Pirate Day and Pirate show planned. During Labour weekend we have our 50th jubilee. For more details go to the Sunnyvale website.

We are also extra lucky this term to have Miss Oakley with us from the University of Auckland. She is studying to be a teacher and will be working in Room 7 for the next 5 weeks.

Class Routines- Our expectation is that everyone arrives at school 8.30ish, having had a good breakfast.  School begins at 8.55 and children need to get to school early so that they can sharpen pencils, unpack book bags and catch up with their friends and teacher.  If children are late they need to go to the office for a late note.

Uniform- Summer is here and it is going to be very hot. Children need to bring their hat to school everyday to protect themselves from the bright sun. Children without hats will be made to play in the shade. Please name everything! I have lots of permanent markers in class for you to use if needed.

Reading- Your child will be bringing a reading book home in their book bags Monday- Thursday.

Some children are now at the stage where they are becoming more confident readers and as their books are getting longer will have a book over 2 nights. Please make sure they have their book and book bag at school everyday. Please sign your child’s yellow reading book each night after reading with them.

Library- Every Tuesday we get to visit the Library and ICT suite. Your child will get to bring home a new Library book each Tuesday so please remember to send back old books.

Kapa Haka- Lots of children are in the Kapa Haka group and will be attending the Multicultural Festival on Tuesday of week 5. We will be having lots of practices during lunch times to ensure we are ready for our performance.

Any Questions- Should you have any questions about your child’s learning, please don’t hesitate to come and see me, I am available in class anytime after 8.30am. I am more than happy to discuss any concerns that you may have.

Kind regards

Victoria Cooper
