Term 1 2011 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome to Room 12.  We are part of Kowhai Syndicate.

I hope you had a lovely holiday.  My name is Mrs Lalani Herath.

This year it is going to be a very busy year.  We had our student teacher, Ms Kinley, in our class for two weeks and she will be in our class every Tuesday, starting from next Tuesday.

Stationery:

Stationery is available at the school office and if you haven't bought it yet, please buy it soon.  We will be starting our book work very soon.

Homework:

Knowing the alphabet is a necessary part of learning to read.  Your child will be bringing an alphabet/blend card home to learn the letter names and the sounds.  You can ask your child to say the names and sounds when you randomly point to letters.

I have already sent cards with basic key words.  Your child will have to 'Look and Say' the words to remember them.  (Please do not ask them to spell them)

Every Friday your child will be bringing his/her poem book home to read with you.  When reading the rhymes, the children should name the letter at the beginning of each rhyme, and then listen for the sound as it occurs in the word.

These rhymes are for you to read together with your child.  Time together should be enjoyable and relaxed.

Remember to praise, praise, and praise!

Naming your child's property:

Please name your child's uniform, hat, togs and the towel.  It is very hard for 5 and 6 year olds to identify their belongings.

Swimming:

Please send your child's swimming togs and the towel in a plastic bag to school everyday.  Junior children are lucky; they swim everyday for half an hour.

Our swimming time in Term 1 is from 12.30-1.00pm.

To Meet The Teacher:

If you have any concerns about your child please talk to me before or after school and we can make a suitable time to talk.

Thanking you

Lalani Herath
